Perfect Day in Emporia – Melanie and Aaron Apel

When we think of the perfect way to spend our Saturday, we needn’t look any further than our own backyard.

Saturday mornings are a great time for a bike ride.  Before we head out, though, we’d stop off at Commercial St Diner for a hearty breakfast.  After we’ve had our fill, we’d enjoy a good stroll around Commercial St to digest our food and sip on a hot beverage from Granada Coffee Company.

Now it’s time to head out on our ride.  With a full day of activities ahead of us, we’d hit up the Murder Ordained Iconic Route.  A 13-mile route that has the perfect mix of flat and rolling roads, with a great climb out of the Bird Bridge area.  A great way to get the heart pumping, burn those calories from breakfast, but still have energy left for the rest of the day.

When we return to town, it’ll be time to clean up a bit before lunch.  For that, we’ll swing by Gravel City Adventure & Supply Co to get our sticker for completing the Murder Ordained iconic route, and purchase some Venture Wipes, an all natural dry shower wipe.  We’ll be refreshed and changed in time to grab a table at Radius Brewing Company.

A couple of our favorite dishes at Radius are the Rueben and the Avocado Black Berry Salad with Chicken.  After taking in the good vibes at Radius, we’ll head on over to Trox Gallery & Gifts for a visit with Kaila Mock and to check out the newest local art that’s for sale.  After seeing what our creative community is doing, it’ll be time to mosey on down to Vault Meats & Cheeses to fulfill our curious foodie souls.  Becky and Chad love to nerd-out about bread, cheese, cured meats, and anything pickled.  We’ll definitely be grabbing some snacks to treat ourselves throughout the next week.  Since it won’t be quite dinner time yet, we’ll head on over to Hammond Park to throw some disc golf, and throw down a blanket to relax before heading back down town.

By early evening we’ll be ready to fill our bellies again.  There’s always a friendly face waiting for you at Casa Ramos.  It is just the place to enjoy a delicious order of Tacos Al Carbon and a bowl of Molcajete.

At this point, it will be time to head on home to kick up our feet for the evening.  We had a wonderful time exploring our town and supporting local businesses.  Emporia truly has so much to offer locals and visitors alike!
