A new tradition is taking root in Emporia – The Howe Hoist. Inspired by the legacy of Richard Howe, a local stone mason whose artistry shaped the foundations of our community, this rock-lifting competition is set to become a celebration of strength and community pride.
About the Event
Participants will have the opportunity to attempt to lift each of the Howe stones (100, 150, 200, 250, and 300 lbs). These stones were cut and shaped from Rockland Stone in the heart of the Flint Hills. Successful lifts will earn the lifter's name a place in the Howe Hoist registry. A portion of the event proceeds will be donated to the Lyon County Historical Society.
Whether you're a seasoned lifter or simply want to test yourself with a unique challenge, "The Howe Hoist" invites everyone to come together for a day of celebration, competition, and community spirit.
