Good Trouble
November 30, 2023 @ 7:00 pm
ESU Special Collections and Archives invites the campus and community to “Good Trouble,” a program presented by John Edgar Tidwell and made possible by Humanities Kansas. The late political activist and U.S. congressman John Lewis coined the phrase “good trouble” to describe his civil disobedience in the 1960s, raising an interesting question. What role have the humanities played in times of crisis, contentiousness, and incredible disagreement? This talk will seek to answer this question by looking at selected works, such as Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation and Martin Luther King Jr.’s “Letter from Birmingham Jail,” and how they frame today’s perspectives and debates about racism. The event will take place in the Learning Commons of William Allen White Library.
