We love having visitors come to Emporia! This is part two of our suggestions of what you must do when you visit Emporia. Our mission at the Convention and Visitors Bureau is to inspire people to visit, stay, dine, shop and play in Emporia and we want you to enjoy your stay enough that you want to come back for more memorable experiences. Whether you are an outdoor adventurist, day tripper, art lover, history buff, foodie or simply looking for someplace to have a family outing, we want you to come often and stay as long as you can.

Memorable Experiences

Whether you love to shop or simply appreciate an experience you can’t find just anywhere, we have you covered. Enjoy browsing through a one-of-a-kind farm and ranch store and a market where the smokehouse meats are made locally.

Western and More

Bluestem Farm & Ranch Supply is an Emporia tradition. You can spend hours browsing the aisles of this 60,000 square foot family-owned store that has just about anything you may need for your farm or home. Check out the wall of jeans (8,000 pairs), visit with area farmers and ranchers and enjoy complimentary coffee and tea daily and popcorn on Saturdays. Bluestem Farm & Ranch is located at 2611 W Highway 50.

Savory Meats

Fanestil Meats is a family-owned and operated business that has been making great tasting smokehouse meats since 1942. Fanestil Meats Fresh Local Market is the best place to find Party Time ham and turkey. Their selection of meats, bacon, salsas, cheese and other Kansas Made and local goods can’t be beat. Fanestil Meats Fresh Local Market is located at 4700 W Highway 50.

365 Days of Fun

Emporia is a prime target for adventure enthusiasts. Come play the same disc golf courses at which the players in the Glass Blown open compete and ride the same gravel roads as endurance cyclists competing in the Dirty Kanza. Emporia is home to three disc golf Champions. Two PDGA Professional World Champions, Eric McCabe (2010) and Paige Bjerkaas (2018) and Junior World Champion Isaiah Esquivel (2018), call Emporia home.

Emporia Knows Disc Golf

Coined as Disc Golf Disneyland, Emporia offers six 18-hole courses and two 9-hole courses in town and five more courses within 20 minutes, allowing plenty of opportunity for a little disc golf fun! Whether you are practicing for the world’s largest disc golf tournament, the Glass Blown Open, or just spending an afternoon with friends surrounded by our beautiful parks, Emporia is the place to tee off. Ready to hit the chains? Check out course maps on pages 29 and 30 of our online Visitors Guide.

Stop by and browse the Dynamic Discs retail store. Dynamic Discs is the second largest disc golf company in the world and is headquartered right here in Emporia, Kansas. All of their employees play disc golf so they can help you find what you’re looking for. The retail store carries everything from disc golf discs, baskets, bags, minis, and accessories to apparel, hats, hoodies, and more. They are committed to helping you find what you want, so if you can’t find what you are looking for, they will do their best to track it down for you.

Gravel Grinding Capital of the World

Emporia is the epicenter of the gravel cycling world. There are hundreds of miles of roads and trails to explore in the scenic Flint Hills. Every year, thousands of endurance cyclists test themselves in one of the last remaining Tallgrass Prairies in North America during the epic endurance race known as the Dirty Kanza. But you don’t need to be an endurance cyclist to ride the same roads as the Dirty Kanza.  Adventure solo or with friends and experience the breathtaking scenery, solitude and pure freedom of the Flint Hills on these iconic routes inspired by the Dirty Kanza.

Emporia also offers three choices for your retail cycling and service needs. Group rides are also organized by each shop and you can find one almost any night of the week from Spring to Fall. Each shop has its own vibe and we suggest you peruse all three.

Eclectic Bikes  — New and vintage bikes with rentals available

Gravel City Adventure &  Supply — New bikes, bikepacking gear and clothing

High Gear Cyclery — New bikes, accessories and a shop cat named HiCi

Emporia is a short drive from everywhere! Come for a visit and see for yourself all the fun, quirky one-of-a-kind places to go and things to do in Emporia. For more ideas check out our Web site www.visitemporia.com.
