Perfect Day in Emporia – Sally Sanchez

Our day begins with breakfast at the downtown Commercial Street Diner. I personally like the Omelette with a small side of biscuits and gravy and coffee. Then we are off to visit the Emporia All Veteran’s Memorial. In fact, Emporia is the founding city of Veteran’s Day! Just around the corner we visit the David Traylor Zoo, great animal exhibits and the plants there give a botanical feeling.

With all this walking we are now getting hungry. We go to a favorite take out place, “Mis Antojitos.” It’s a pretty lime green trailer with lots of food options. Can’t leave without their famous Mangoliada! We then take our food to Peter Pan Park for a picnic and enjoy the outdoor atmosphere.

After lunch, we take a short drive to Soden’s Grove Park where they have a Miniature Train for kids and adults to ride. We sit and watch the enjoyment of the children riding the train. Next we take a visit downtown to visit the Emporia Arts Center Art Exhibits and shop at the Gift Shop. We take a stroll to Sweet Granada for a desert….so many choices.  Next just down the street we visit Trox Gallery, an eclectic mix of local art and gift items and gallery exhibition.

It’s dinner time, so off we go to a favorite Mexican Restaurant, “Casa Ramos.” I order one of my favorite dishes, Chile Colorado with rice and beans. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere. To end the day take a stroll down the street to Twin Rivers Winery & Gourmet shop. We all have a glass of wine to relax and enjoy our end of the Girls Day Out!
