2019 Symphony in the Flint Hills Signature Event to take place at
Irma’s Pasture – Bazaar, Kansas – Chase County

The 2019 Symphony in the Flint Hills Signature Event will take place at Irma’s Pasture in Bazaar, Kansas on June 15, 2019. The private ranchland in Chase County is owned by Mike Stout, board chair for Symphony in the Flint Hills, and his brother, Joe Stout.

“The ranch for this year’s event has been in my family for 20 years and it’s close to other land my family has owned in Bazaar since 1868 when my great-great-grandfather settled in the area,” said Stout. “My family and I invite you to join us and the Flint Hills community at Irma’s Pasture on June 15 when we consider the meaning of our state motto, Ad Astra per Aspera– and the importance of the celebrations – dances, games, potlucks, roping contests – that saw our ancestors through their hard times.”

This year is the 14th anniversary of the annual event that always falls on the second Saturday in June. The day-long event features food and beverage, prairie walks, covered wagon rides, story circle and poetry, inspirational talks, a juried art exhibit and auction, a sunset concert performed by the Kansas City Symphony, an after-concert dance and star gazing.

This year’s theme will shine the spotlight on the state’s motto “Ad Astra,” with region-wide activities that tie to Jump!Star, a multi-faceted arts program developed by artist George Ferrandi with support from the National Endowment for the Arts.

“This year’s theme focuses on the land, the people and the future of the Kansas Flint Hills through a celebration of the transition of our North Star and the constellations,” said Christy Davis, Executive Director of Symphony in the Flint Hills. “The Jump!Star team, in collaboration with Harvester Arts and Chamber Music at the Barn, has been working with communities around the U.S. to develop the first iteration of this celestial celebration and it’s culminating at our event on June 15.”

For the fifth year in a row, BNSF Railway is the Major Presenting Sponsor of the Signature Event.

“We are so grateful to BNSF Railway for their continued support as our Major Presenting Sponsor,” said Davis. “Without them and our other generous sponsors, it wouldn’t be possible for us to continue our mission to heighten appreciation and knowledge of the Flint Hills tallgrass prairie year-round throughout the region.”

Tickets will go on sale to the public at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 2 and can be purchased at https://2019symphonyintheflinthills.eventbrite.com and the Symphony in the Flint Hills office in Cottonwood Falls. For March 2 only, tickets will be sold in person at the Livestock Exchange Building in Kansas City at 1600 Genessee.
