This month, we’re so pleased to be featuring Haymakers from Wichita!

Since their inception in 2012, Haymakers have proven time and time again to be true purveyors of the broad reach of American acoustic music, from the hills and hollers to the swamps and plains. Their homegrown brand of Americana string band jamgrass continues to break new ground at every turn, yielding a constantly fresh perspective that is always engaging and entertaining. Their two new albums, Waconda Flyer (a record primarily of new original songs) and 100 Years of Hank (their lovingly crafted tribute album celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Hank Williams) show the band’s wingspan stretching well beyond its bluegrass roots as they touch on folk-rock and even something they’ve dubbed ‘calypso country.’ “I think both Tom (Page; co-founder, vocals, guitar) and I have started to have some songwriting ideas and approaches that shifted the band in a new and different direction,” notes co-founder Dustin Arbuckle (vocals, harmonica). “We’ve really begun to take our time with our approach to instrumentation and arrangements,” Page says. “We want to create a transportive experience for the listener and I think we’ve begun to do that.”
