EMPORIA, Kansas, June 18, 2019 – – Emporia, Kansas will once again host the Junior Disc Golf World Championships. The event, held July 9 through July 13, is presented by Dynamic Discs and is sanctioned by the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA). Players representing 40 states plus Canada, Finland, Sweden and New Zealand are currently registered. Organizers are anticipating a field of 300 players ranging from ages 8 to 18, by registration closing on June 28.

Tournament play, which begins Wednesday, July 10, will take place on six Emporia courses including Emporia Country Club, Peter Pan Park, Jones Park West, Jones Park East, Hammond Park, and Flint Hills Technical College. Players compete in ten divisions for world titles. “It is always exciting to be around the life-changing experience of a kid winning a world title. There is no better place than Emporia, Kansas to see this happen!” says Doug Bjerkaas, Tournament Director.

Player check-in, as well as the opening ceremony and player meeting, will take place on Tuesday, July 9. Several activities, outside of tournament play, are scheduled for the players including field events, a clinic with 2018 World Pro Champion Page Bjerkaas, a disc design contest, mini disc golf tournaments, a night at the zoo and roller skating. Friday evening, July 12, the community is invited to come mingle with players and their families at the Junior Worlds Block Party and FlyMart to be held in the 900 block of Commercial Street.

Semi-final rounds will be held at area courses starting at 8:00 a.m. Saturday, July 13, and tee times for finals begin at noon at the Emporia Country Club. Awards will be presented at the Country Club following tournament play, approximately 3:00 p.m.

Emporia hosted the newly created Junior World Championships in 2018. Organizers estimate 600 visitors were in Emporia for the event, 194 of which were registered players. The 2020 World Championships are also scheduled to be held in Emporia.
