Treasures and Bargains

Gather your friends and family and head to the 2019 Great American Market on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019 in Emporia. Plan to spend the weekend, because we truly have all you need for a weekend getaway, from lush hotels to scrumptious food.

Originally founded by The Emporia Gazette about 15 years ago and now managed by Emporia Main Street, the Great American Market has blossomed into an event that draws several thousand people to downtown Emporia each year.

The Great American market, which will run from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., is a multi-block outdoor flea-market where you can find anything from antiques to clothing and handmade goods to homemade foods. You can also find jewelry, collectables, artwork, and treasures you never knew you needed until you spotted them in one of the many vendor booths. You might just find everything including the kitchen sink! There will be surprises hidden up and down Commercial Street waiting for you to discover.

In addition to great shopping, you will find a bouncy house for the kids, live music, and food to re-charge you so you can do even more shopping. Food vendors will be plentiful and there will be something for every taste whether you’re looking for an entire meal or a quick snack as you’re headed to the next booth.

Shopping and More

While you’re shopping the market, don’t forget to stop in our unique downtown businesses. Our brewpub Radius Brewing Company, where you can try one of their craft beers brewed right in the middle of the dining room, has a mouthwatering menu including wood- fired brick oven pizzas a daily special and a rotating chef’s menu.  Twin Rivers Winery has a wine-themed gift shop that carries bulk spices, cheeses, local honey and more. Our gourmet chocolate shop, The Sweet Granada , has hand-dipped chocolates, fresh baked cookies, fresh fudge and the ever popular PopChoc. Emporia even has a charcuterie, which you don’t find just anywhere. Check out the fabulous selection of meats, cheeses and accoutrements that Vault Meats & Cheeses has to offer.

We have two gourmet coffee shops on Commercial Street where you can caffeinate or quench your thirst; Granada Coffee Company and Gravel City Roasters. Visit the Dynamic Discs store for everything disc golf and check out the gift shops at Bath Expressions, offering beautiful unique gifts and home decor, and Jack’s Lawn & Pool Store. Don’t let the name fool you, Jack’s has all sorts of cool stuff! Consider visiting the Emporia Arts Center, with a gallery and gift shop; the Lyon County History Center, with exhibits and gift shop; and taking a peek inside the historic Emporia Granada Theatre, an Emporia treasure with it 1920’s Spanish Colonial Revival style. Click this link for more great local shopping options, some within walking distance and others close by.

Rest & Relaxation

After a full day of shopping, stay the night with us and relax or get out and enjoy the nightlife. Before you head home Sunday, fuel up for your trip at Commercial Street Diner where no one leaves hungry, Billy Bob’s BBQ where they serve breakfast all day, or Radius Brewing Company in downtown Emporia where there’s a new scrumptious Sunday brunch menu every month.

Be sure to join us for the Great American Market and pass the word around! It only comes once a year, so don’t miss it! See you in downtown Emporia on Sept. 14, 2019!
